SAKURA QUALITY

Sakura Quality is a system for valuing the quality of Japanese hotels and other lodgings. This information will help foreign tourists find and enjoy comfortable hotels and other lodgings.

Accommodations that wish to participate have a Phase 1 assessment based on around 300 different criteria concerning a hotel’s facilities, services, quality, safety management, and ability to deal with international guests. Accommodations that get above 3 Sakura marks on this assessment can opt for a Phase 2 assessment which is made up of around 2,100 criteria carried out by an unidentified assessor. Assessors are neutral and objective, and give a rating of up to five marks.

The Sakura Quality system differs from other such ‘word of mouth’ rating systems as the data has been collected by a private unbiased investigator.

Traditional Japanese hotels
Grade Quality Criteria
A traditional Japanese hotel which is nice and clean. Guests can relax and feel safe and at ease.
  A traditional Japanese hotel where guests can relax comfortably and enjoy a taste of traditional Japanese lifestyle and culture.
  A traditional Japanese hotel where you can have a meaningful Japanese cultural experience and feel fulfilled with all the splendor that traditional Japanese hotels have to offer.
A traditional Japanese hotel which exceeds expectations in all aspects. Guests will have a profound experience of Japanese culture and feel fulfilled with all the splendor that traditional Japanese hotels have to offer.
A traditional Japanese hotel which skillfully captures Japan’s traditional beauty. The buildings and gardens too should have artistic merit. This hotel doesn’t just offer a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality, every aspect is delivered at the highest level.
Hotels
Grade Quality Criteria
A clean and tidy hotel where guests can relax and feel at ease.
  A hotel where guests can comfortably spend time, without any significant incovieniences for foriegn guests.
  In comfortable surroundings this hotel offers a warm and friendly service to a high standard. Guests can relax and feel at ease on the premises.
A hotel which can offer foreign guests a comfortable and stress free stay and delivers services at a high standard.
A hotel which can offer the highest standard facilities and well refined services. Guests can recieve the highest level of hospitality.

 

Small scale hotels and lodgings
Grade Quality Criteria
A lodging with sufficient facilities where guests can have a satisfactory stay.
  A lodging where guests can feel relaxed and have a comfortable stay.
  A lodging with a homely atmosphere where guests can have a pleasant and comfortable stay.
Staying at this lodging well meets all the objectives and expectations of it’s guest’s trips.
Staying at this lodging exceeds all expectations of it’s guest’s trips and offers a high level of service.

 

Type of lodgings

Traditional Japanese hotels

At traditional Japanese style lodgings guest rooms usually have tatami mats (Japanese style straw floor coverings) and in many cases dinner and breakfast is included.

 

Hotels

At hotels guests rooms have western style beds and in many cases dinner is not included in the price.

 

Small scale hotels and lodgings

In many cases these hotels and lodgings operate on a small scale basis and have a homely atmosphere.
